Q: What is the story behind your ID, Zeem ?
Zeem: My name is Jim and so is my father’s. He had a client with a thick accent and Jim became Zeem. On Poker Stars my nick is ZeemJr and once after I had won a few pots and was controlling the action, I sat out a few hands and someone typed “If that’s Zeem Jr. I’d hate to run into Zeem Sr.”
Q: How did you get into poker ?
Zeem: We started playing in high school. We would bring war chests of pennies and play crazy games (no holdem, we hadn’t heard of it). We would make runs to the 24-hour donut shop and pay in pennies!
Q: Do you have any poker related goals and if so what are they ?
Zeem: My most immediate goal is cashing in a live tourney that would get my name in the big poker database. I play mostly limit cash play, would like to improve my NL cash game and take some shots at bigger games.
Q: What are key improvements that you’ve seen in your game over the last six months, and what is one priority you have for improving? (Submitted by CC)
Zeem: I think I’m getting better at controlling pot size. My top priority is to improve my focus and observation.
Q: How would you describe your poker style ?
Zeem: Have you seen the new Full Tilt ad with Gus Hansen X 5 ? He says “how I play is up to you”. I think I can adapt to the table. I am patient, but not necessarily tight.
Q: What would be your first piece of advice for someone wanting to learn to play poker ? (Submitted by Maudie)
Zeem: My advice would be to observe as much as you can.
Q: What level of static do you get over your poker habit ? (Submitted by Drewspop)
Zeem: None.
Q: What was the first poker blog you read ?
Zeem: Not sure. I was a big RGP reader in the days before televised poker.
Q: Who would be at your 6-handed SNG ?
Zeem: My old friends are mostly married with children, while I remain a bachelor. My 6-handed table would be my buddies from high school, though we might not use pennies.
Q: Between Nihilism and Masochism, which do you think better describes why you play poker? (Submitted by Iakaris)
Zeem: Nihilist, like in the Big Lebowski ! Though I’m more like the Dude.
Q: What’s the last book you have read ?
Zeem: Malcolm Gladwell’s Blink.
Q: Tell us a little known fact about yourself.
Zeem: Once attempted a shot at a Sonics game for a million dollars. They bring in a lawyer to ice you right before the shot, and you’re not warmed up and have to sink a 75-footer. I missed. Badly.
Q: Who put the bomp in the bomp-a-bomp-a-bomp ?
Zeem: I didn’t do it!
