Weekly Champion Profile – Lucko21
Congratulations to Lucko21 for winning his 2nd Mookie of 2009 and adding title #5 to his collection. You can find his past profiles on The Mookie Winners page. Since I’m running out of questions for Lucko, I received some questions for Lucko from other bloggers and also pulled in some past questions submitted by other winners. Here is his latest profile…
Champion: Lucko21

Q: Ask Lucko about his ultra-aggressive play, which means he gets mentioned a lot as a pushmonkey, luckbox, etc., but he clearly makes his own luck. How did he learn to play that way, what situations does he recognize as good ones to push with nothing, and does he clearly push with nothing or does he always have outs? How did he learn to play that way, too, when books clearly don’t teach it? (Submitted by Pokerpeaker)
Lucko: A big part of playing good poker is adjusting to the table conditions. Playing against bloggers, it is usually right to play a bit looser and more aggressive. I have spent a lot of time on my style of play and there isn’t one thing I could point to as how I learned. It is one big work in progress. And I rarely bluff without some kind of outs.
Q: Ask Lucko about his awesome girlfriend, and how he runs so good in real life in addition to poker. (Submitted by LJ)
Lucko: Shouldn’t it be “how he runs so well in real life”? I am not so good at the grammar tho.
Q: Some people play poker purely for the financial gains. This often means playing against people whom you would never associate with if you met them away from the table. How does it make you feel to sit in close quarters with someone you detest, even if they are paying you to be there? There certainly are other ‘professions’ where this occurs – are you a poker whore? (Submitted by Bdidde)
Lucko: I play more as a hobby, if I don’t want to be there, I leave.
Q: What is holding you back from playing at the next higher level of poker? (Submitted by Fuel55)
Lucko: No question about it, its having a good job. If I was 22 and just out of college, I think I would be jumping into poker 100% without looking back. It is just really hard to walk away from a good job ever, but especially with how things are right now.
Q: In a tournament, if you were under the gun with T5000 with QQ and you raised to 600 (which is 3x the BB) and someone re-raised you another 1900, whose bare ass would you prefer to have in your face, Brooke Burke’s, Jessica Alba’s, or Estelle Getty’s? (Submitted by DonkeyPuncher)
Lucko: Alba.
Q: What do you focus on when you come to a new table? (Submitted by Zeem)
Lucko: Check to see if I know anyone, then check stack sizes and their position relative to my position and the blinds.
Q: What is the longest vacation from poker that you’ve had in the past year? (Submitted by Mattazuma)
Lucko: Probably about 2 weeks, which is also about the longest I have had in the past 5 years.
Q: What is your poker highlight to date? (Submitted by Bayne)
Lucko: I guess cashing in the WSOP Main Event a few years ago. Winning three mtts in three days last year is probably second. A $20k+ live win and two on line wins in one night over a 3 day span is something I don’t think a lot of people have accomplished.
Q: Who is your poker nemesis? If you don’t have one, would you like to chose one now? (Submitted by Julius_Goat)
Lucko: I don’t think I have one. So far this year it has been OMGitsPokerFool tho. He is the only player to bust me from the Mookie and is second behind me on the early leaderboard.
Q: What skills or traits has the game of Poker taught you, that translates well in your daily interactions? (Submitted by pureprophet)
Lucko: None. If anything, playing poker is a negative away from the tables.
Lucko’s question for the next champ…
Q: What is the biggest buy-in tournament you have ever played? How did it go?
