Q: What is the story behind your ID, AlCantHang?

ACH: Too much booze in too short amount of time. Hospital visit and BAC of 0.46 created the nickname nearly 15 years ago and it stuck. Songs have been written and stories told. Most are fabrications and I generally lead a dull life living up to the CantHang nickname.

Q: How did you get into poker?

ACH: I have been playing various non-Hold’em forms of poker for 20 years. We were holding 80 person poker tournaments at the local bars years before the “Moneymaker Explosion”. I started playing online when I started hearing stories of schooling fish in numbers too large to sustain.

Q: Do you have any poker related goals and if so what are they?

ACH: Besides watching Waffles blow through every one of his FTP deposits? Besides the cliche goal of winning a WSoP bracelet (LO8 my preference), I would like to win enough money to quit everything and open a strip club/poker room where the girls double as the dealers. Fairly modest goal.

Q: What are key improvements that you’ve seen in your game over the last six months, and what is one priority you have for improving? (Submitted by CC)

ACH: In reality, I’m a horrible poker player and I specialize in being especially terrible in tournaments. Sitting with DoubleAs last winter as I moved through several tournaments helped me open up my tournament game in the later stages. Most times the listens don’t stick but occasionally I remember.

Q: How would you describe your poker style?

ACH: Cash games, grinder. Tournaments, weak/tight/boring/usually drunk.

Q: What would be your first piece of advice for someone wanting to learn to play poker? (Submitted by Maudie)

ACH: Watch me, see what I do, write everything down. Then do the exact opposite. For the 200 level course, watch Waffles. The real piece of advice would be to read everything you can get your hands on for different perspectives, take advice with a grain of salt, then play as many hands as you can get under your belt. There is no substitute for experience.

Q: What level of static do you get over your poker habit? (Submitted by Drewspop)

ACH: Static? What is this static you speak of? Poker is the least harmful of a dozen habits I currently enjoy.

Q: What was the first poker blog you read?

ACH: PokerGrub via an article written by Iggy for a poker site. For those who don’t know, for better or worse, Grubby is the orginator of The Hammer.

Q: Who would be at your 6-handed SNG?

ACH: You can’t beat the 6-handed game I just had on vacation. Dr. Pauly, BigMike, Landow, Lewey, and Dero. My blogger SnG would have Pauly, Otis, Iggy, BobbyBracelet, and StB. Shots would be served to everyone at the table each orbit and would be sponsored by Alcoholics Anonymous. Gigli would have to give up booze for life.

Q: Between Nihilism and Masochism, which do you think better describes why you play poker? (Submitted by Iakaris)

ACH: The majority of my online tournaments are spent playing against bloggers. If that doesn’t scream masochist, I don’t know another way to put it.

Q: What’s the last book you have read?

ACH: The Tender Bar by J.R.Moehringer. The last poker books were the Harrington on Hold’em series.

Q: Tell us a little known fact about yourself.

ACH: I didn’t have my first drink until well after I was of legal drinking age. I’m still making up for lost time.

Q: Who is the best player of all the Mookie regular players? (Submitted by leftylu)

ACH: Just throwing this out there because it amuses me. Poor Hoyazo has been trying to crack the top spot in a Mookie tournament since the beginning. He is by far a better player than myself yet I’m the one sitting here answering my Mookie Champs profile. The level of play amongst most of the bloggers has elevated so much in the last few years since blogger events started that it would be impossible to pick one player who dominates the Mookie on a regular basis. So with tongue firmly planted in cheek, I will say the best player of all Mookie players would have to be…. Waffles!
