The Mookie/Dookie Recap

The MookieAnother strong turnout at The Mookie last night on Full Tilt. A total of 78 players showed up for their chance at the title. Bdidde won last week but wasn’t able to make it out last night to defend. I found my usual spot on the couch and settled in by listening to the last installment of MDIT Radio while updating the live-blog.

Unusually distracted, I spent much of the first couple of hours in fold mode. It looked to be another night finishing midway through the pack. After the 2nd break I was at the bottom of the list with less than 3,000 chips but managed to double up with AA to give me a little bit to work with.

I hung around on autofold and slid into the final table and cash after Chad bubbled in 10th place. Seems he had more important things to attend to like final tabling the 28K yet again.

Here were the final table players and chipcounts:

The Mookie Final Table

Yea that’s me in dead last place but I managed to win a race with JackAce against Fuel’s 88 to get me back in the game. I hung around by jamming preflop anytime the action folded to me and won a couple of flips to build my stack to average.

Eventually I made it three-handed with two past champs…OhCaptain and surflexus. Over the course of 30 minutes we each took turns with the chiplead rarely seeing a flop. I could probably count on one hand how many flops were seen. OhCaptain got blinded down and finished in 3rd after my AKd flopped quads vs. his TT.

Surflexus had a 137K to 96K chiplead when we started heads up play but 3 hands in that changed. We got all in on the flop with me holding top pair vs. his 2nd pair and OESD. Somehow I faded his 98 outs and took the lead with 164K vs. his 69K.

I thought it may be over when I got him all in with 99 on an 8 high flop but he had JJ and doubled up. Sitting on a small lead with 132 vs. 101, this was the hand that pretty much determined the tourney.

mookie99 raises to 14,500
surflexus raises to 44,700
mookie99 raises to 131,588, and is all in
surflexus calls 56,512, and is all in
mookie99 shows [Qd Kc]
surflexus shows [9h Ah]
Uncalled bet of 30,376 returned to mookie99
*** FLOP *** [7d Th 6c]
*** TURN *** [7d Th 6c] [Ts]
*** RIVER *** [7d Th 6c Ts] [3h]
mookie99 shows a pair of Tens
surflexus shows a pair of Tens
surflexus wins the pot (203,624) with a pair of Tens

I managed to double with up 77 on the very next hand but was still way short and ran 65o right into his KK to end the night in 2nd place….yet again. Congrats to Surf on title #6! He is a freakin’ machine and is on a tear right now. There were so many times he was crippled during the course of final table play but he managed to keep coming back. Beating him heads up vs. a random new player for my first win would have been extra special but it just wasn’t meant to be…the curse lives on.

A huge thanks to everyone who railed the final table and rooted for me. Poor surflexus not only had to keep fighting back in the tourney but probably only had one railbird for the night…KOD. Chad makes a good point though, what fun would it be for me to win now so early in the year and in the prop bet against Hoy. He says neither of us should win until the fall…if ever.

Here were the final table finishes:

1st Placesurflexus … Title #6. Simply amazing.

2nd Place – mookie99 – Probably the 5th or 6th time I’ve come in 2nd. Puke.

3rd PlaceOhCaptain … This newcomer and past champ almost won title #2.

4th Place – schlepp571 … Buddy of Buddy’s. His JT fell to my AK ending his run in 4th.

5th Place – Donkey Shortz … Another newcomer. A5c was no good vs. surf’s QTd.

6th PlacellkkaK … 2nd final table of the year. I button raised 97o and IlkkaK called with KQo, the money went in on a K97 flop.

7th Placepushmonkey72 … After coming into the final table with the chiplead, he lost a big flip with A5 vs. Surf’s 44. Another chunk went to me when his QT lost to JJ. The end came when his 87 lost to Surf’s AK.

8th Placetwoblackaces … In one of the few coolers witnessed at the final table, he got all in preflop with QQ vs. pushmonkey’s AA. Queen on the flop but an Ace on the turn for the nice setup hand.

9th PlaceFuel55 … Host of the Ultimate Blogger Cash Game. He lost 85 races last night including his last hand KJ vs. 66.

The DookieLast night’s Dookie tournament was Turbo Stud and 22 players joined. With much of my attention directed at The Mookie, I didn’t last too long in this thing. Plus I have no clue on how to play Stud.

Here were the people who do know how to play and finished in the money:

1st Place – pureprophet

2nd PlacePirateLawyer

3rd Placeck31

Congrats to pureprophet on the win and thanks to everyone who made it out to one or both of the tournaments last night.

  1. Thanks for hosting Mook, always a good time.

  2. Fuel beat ME in a race on the final table bubble to even have that stack. That is what happens when you win races against me, poker Jebus makes sure you don’t win another all night!

  3. I would like remind everyone that I have completed the Reverse Gauntlet not once, but twice, in the last 3 weeks! (Last place Mookie, First Place Dookie)

Let it be known that the Dookie goes through me!

  4. no disrespect for Surf at all but, the whole bloggarail was hoping you’d take it down. the play was very intense 3-handed. you guys kept trading chips for quite some time. one thing you were doing that was driving me nutz tho was raise from the button or sb into OhCaptain and folding to his pushes. you must’ve done it like 20x. he was a restealin’ like it was his job. you still overcame all that and almost won. well done mOOk !

  5. I was raising with air damn near every time and couldn’t take a stand to the 3bet. I didn’t wanna let up though so I kept raising nearly every hand.

  6. Great match Mookie. I had a lot of fun 3 handed. I’ll agree, the 3 handed got intense, but ain’t that why we play?

Sorry you didn’t quite take it down. I was railing you after my departure. You’ll take it down before Hoy.
