Tanner Evers
A couple days ago we found out that our friend’s little boy, Tanner Evers, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma. This is a form of cancer that occurs mostly in infants and young children. Tanner is almost 3 years old and had to go back into the hospital last night for another blood transfusion. You can read more about him HERE. The medical bills for the family are mounting and I wanted to do something. I know there is already alot of effort being put towards some very worthy causes like ForPeyton, so I was thinking of just having a tournament with all the buyins going to the Evers family. I have emailed Pokerstars to see if they can help set this up and we would probably have it on Wednesday night, August 30th, using The Mookie timeslot.
I’ve also asked Pokerstars if they can donate something for the tournament that can be given out as prizes to the top finishers. Does anyone have any other ideas for other prizes and/or other places I could hit up for some prizes ? If I come up dry for prizes, I’ll donate $100 that we can spread out for the top 3-5 finishers. Please let me know if you have any ideas.
For those of you who live in the Austin area, we are planning a live tournament as well and are looking to have that on possibly September 2nd. I am also looking for things we can give away for this tournament. I will be building a poker table like the newest one I built for the Big O that will be used as one of the prizes. Again if you have any ideas or contacts for things we could give away, please let me know.
Right now it looks like the buyins for the tournaments will be $10 for the online and $25 for the live one. If you cannot make either and want to help out or if you want to give more, we will be setting up a place on the Big O website this weekend where you can make a donation.
I know this probably won’t raise a ton of money, but I think every bit will help their family out tremendously.

*** UPDATE *** Heard back from Pokerstars and they said they are unable to setup the tournament and that I should just set it up the way I normally do for The Mookie. As far as payouts go, they said just ask the winners to transfer the money to my account. Not quite the answer I was looking for as that’s kinda hokey. I sent a counter email so we’ll see what happens. I may email Full Tilt and see what they say. Some people have asked about donating some FPPs to the prize pool, so I asked Pokerstars about that too, still waiting to hear back.
A few people have asked about moving the buyin up to $20. I think this is great idea as long as we can still attract our usual crowd. Let me know what you think.

Mook… I’d certainly be willing to pay a lsrger buy in for such a worthy cause. Perhaps set up a 20 dollar buyin, then see if you can get pokerstars to award FPPs or maybe a satellite chip into another tourny for prizes? I don’t know if they’d be willing at all, but I’m just playing for bragging rights anyways.
I’ll be sure to participate. I can do a $20 buy-in too. Sounds like a good idea Marx.

How about $20 + 20 FPP, that way the FPP could be distributed to the winners in an amount more or less equal to the cash, and if Stars adds some to the pool, that would just be a bonus.
That’s a good idea, but it will all depend on whether or not Stars will be able to setup the tourney. Right now it doesn’t look promising.
If I have to work I can’t play – but I will DEFINITELY donate some cash!!

Would love to see this event and future Mookie events moved over to Full Tilt. Too many blogger events on one site and we probably aren’t getting them to fight enough for our business.
