Rockin’ Out
It seems I’m posting less frequently here than days/years past. I still throw up some recaps, profiles and stats each week but not much of anything else. Outside of my normal suburban routine there hasn’t been much to write about. The most exciting thing these days has been sweating whether or not I’ll have a job in the coming months. We’ve yet to hear much about that sort of thing after the buy-out announcement was made months back.
They did have HR people from the new company come here and tell us about all the great benefits we can look forward to but gave no concrete answers on job security. It’s kind of an ass backwards way to handle things IMO. Get the employees all fired up about 401K matching, better health benefits, etc. and then possibly shitcan them a couple months or less down the road. At the end of the day we are all just tiny cogs in this huge corporate wheel. BLOW.
I’ve often wondered what I really wanted to do when I grow up and I think I’ve come to the conclusion that I yearn for a far more simpler life. Screw suburbia and give me 5-10 acres away from the hustle and bustle. I wanna grow my own garden since I’m tired of all the E-coli breakouts for every veggie it seems. Plus I think there’s that sense of satisfaction of being able to grow your own grub. Add a few chickens, pigs and cows and we’d be set. Maybe I could work out of the house so I wouldn’t have to make a long commute.
Any past farmer/country folk out there who lives/lived like this? Am I just a victim of the grass is always greener syndrome? I’ve been a city boy all my life however Mrs. Mookie is a country gal who grew up on 100 acres with chickens, cows, etc. She’s been wanting to return to that type of life and I think I’m starting to see the light. We’ll see.

We hosted our first poker tournament since Weekend at Mookie’s 2 last Friday night at the Big O . It was a last minute tourney but we still pulled in 19 players. You can read the full tourney recap over at the Big O site, but long story short I was the 2nd player to hit the rail. My only big and exciting hands were running QQ into AA and AK into AK and JT…JT won of course.
I managed to crash the kiddos room where they were playing Rock Band that friends of ours had brought over for the night. I only embarrassed myself through one song but had a blast playing.
Last night we found ourselves at Best Buy and ended up buying Rock Band for the Wii. I talked to my buddy before buying it last night and he mentioned “make sure you don’t stay up until 2AM playing.”
We had everything setup by 9:45pm and started our Rock Tour. The fears of playing and singing were quickly overcome as we each took turns playing the drums and guitar along with exercising our vocal chords on the mic. Hell I got up and sang even though I could compete for the world’s worst singer.
Song after song, hour after hour we wailed and played. Our throats, fingers, forearms and feet were sore (damn drum pedal) but we played on. Finally after playing a crazy long set of 32 songs we shut her down with the clock reading 1AM. Good times.
You know where I’ll be found after busting out of tonight’s Mookie.

MOOOOOOOOKday. No matter how bad a Wednesday gets I can always look forward to playing The Mookie. What’s sick is I can have the worst day ever come home and play The Mookie, get kicked in the junk and still feel so much better than before. Now with the Waffletastic Summer Prop Bet there is even more to look forward to.
Tonight is event #2 out of 9 in said prop bet. Another chance for Waffles to climb the Mookie Leaderboard. Will the rush continue or is the beginning of the end (again) for Waffle’s bankroll. Tune in tonight.
OSU was able to take down his first title last week and will be looking to make it a double. Once again I’m not sure if BDR will be live tonight but I’ll probably forgo the Live Blog since I don’t wanna burn myself out too fast must play more Rock Band.
Everyone is welcome to play some come join the madness. Be sure to check out NumbBono’s site for details on tonight’s Dookie.
Good Luck!

Welcome back to writing! It’s nice to see you return.
I’m glad to see I’m not the only one thinking about having a midlife crisis. I’ve given serious thought to life without a tie, making my own rules and getting away from software development. Some days, the idea of just spending my day taking pictures seems really appealing. Then I realize that to make money doing photography, I’d need to run a business too. Then it would be back to grinding it out in meetings and selling. But then again, I’d be selling myself instead of some new object model whose paradigm shift would increase coding efficiencies, or some other BS like that.
Wonder if I can get it all done before turning 40?
I’ve never been a City or even suburban kind of guy.
I’m a country kid by choice. I still commute down to hell 5 days a week though.
The garden thing has been tried and aborted. Only because it became as Peb’s would
say, “another fantastic hobby/addiction” for me. Way too much time required.
I do have a neighbour doing the Turkey/Chicken thing and I’ve kept a steady
eye on his progress. I’m not sure I personally could do it to be honest.
We traded down from just over 50 acres, to a very comfortable 2 acres and
recently, we’ve been having discussions along the exact same line as your topic
above. Could we move yet even further out of harms way, and still keep
ourselves amused, comfortable, happy and fed?
Is the grass greener indeed?
Man, read “Darkness Falls” by Kyle Mills. It’s about life if most of the world’s oil supply goes away in a matter of months. Then think about current events.
You’ll be buying that property PDQ.
J Haze owns!!!!
Can we please see a youtube video of you singing?
