Luck O’ The Irish

This year…alot like the last year.

Since I missed the Christmas Eve Mookie and didn’t pay a lot of attention during the New Year’s Eve version, I was really looking forward to playing last night.  I settled in on the couch with my laptop and tuned into the video/audio broadcast on BuddyDank Radio.

50 players showed up for the first Mookie of 2009.  My first table consisted of DrewFours, veryjosie, MeCrushBloggers, Astin, TheSlinger, Panther 2012 and TripJax.  I won a smaller pot early on when I flopped a set of 7’s against TripJax.  Meanwhile PokerPeaker was the Gigli when he flopped a flush but ran into Lucko’s nut flush.

About 35 minutes into the thing the blinds were 30/60 and PirateLawyer raised to 150 in early position and DrewFours called.  I was in late position with AKo and reraised to 690, PL went all in for 1,640 more.  DrewFours folded and paused a bit before finally calling.  He showed TT and we were off to the races.  The race ended quickly with a Ten showing up on the flop.  After this hand I was left just 105 chips.

Luckily for me I managed to quadruple up the very next hand with AQo.  Somehow I managed to stay alive and started to slowly chip back up and even made the first break.  My stack peaked at 1,200 chips and in the end I ended up shoving my chips in on the flop with an OESD only to run into Breeze81’s flopped set.  No lucky turn or river and I was out in 32nd place.

I did manage to outlast Waffles who was KO’d by BuddyDank giving him the early lead in the Busted Waffles category on the stat sheet.

I kept an eye on The Mookie while I started The Dookie which was HORSE this week.  I played OK but lost a couple of big pots and bubbled the final table in 9th place.

Eventually The Mookie field was reduced to 9 players and the final table was formed with the poker power couple leading the way…

Only the top 6 spots made the money and here is where they finished:

9th Placeveryjosie

8th PlaceWillWonka

7th PlacePanther2012

6th Placexkm1245, $30

5th PlaceLightning36, $40

4th PlaceDaBag, $55

3rd Placejimdniacc, $75

After Jim busted in 3rd, LJ and Lucko were left to battle it out for the first title of 2009.  Both had 3 Mookie title’s each so the winner would be just the fifth player to win 4 titles or more.  LJ managed to take a huge lead after this hand went down:

It looked like the top finisher of the 2008 leaderboard would start the new year in the same position but Lucko is well Lucko…

Lucko managed to get back into the match after making a big all in call with Ace high on this flop…

Eventually Lucko took over the chiplead and then ran like Lucko when they got it all in preflop on the final hand…

Congratulations to Lucko on title #4.

2nd Placepvanharibo, $110

1st Placelucko21, $190

With these results Team Schaubs took an early $300 lead in their challenge against Team Tragedy.

Thanks to everyone who made it out to the tournament last night.  See you next week.

  1. That’s the way the Mookie has gone for me in the last year.

I’d like to apologize to everyone out there, mainly LJ, for giving Lucko so many chips early on. I really considered folding but couldn’t do it when super-aggressive Lucko plays the way he does. That’s WHY he plays the way he does, of course.

  2. on the Q7hh hand the money got in on the turn when i shoved over his raise w/ virtually no fe…it was def a poorly played hand by me, but how do i not hit a heart?!

i completely forgot i would have won were it not for the 99 < Q7. eff that luckbox. :)

  3. Lucko is back! it was fun watching him bounce blogger after blogger with marginal (i.e. craptastic) hands.
