Jam-Packed Weekend

My alarm went off this morning at 5:45am and I wanted to rip it off my nightstand and throw it through the wall. This weekend was full of activities for the Mookie clan and there wasn’t any time to crash on the couch and relax.

Friday night I met Mrs. Mookie over at Jim’s house for a home tournament. His new poker room is looking great and 19 players showed up for the tourney. The deck hit me in the head hard early on but I couldn’t get paid off. Flopped boat, QQ four times, and flushes galore and I didn’t much by way of chips. Naturally when the blinds escalated and we neared the final table 93, 24 and 83 replaced the monster hands I received earlier.

After one of the players at our table hit the rail, we were left with 5 at our table and 11 total left in the tourney. I had around 50K in chips with blinds at 2K/4K and from that point nearly every pot was raised preflop so making moves were tough to pull off with less than premium hands. By the time the final table was formed I had let myself getting blinded out and I bombed out in 10th place. I stuck around for the cash game and played until 2am winning back my buy-in plus a little bit more.

Three of our kiddos are playing soccer this spring at the YMCA and Saturday morning was their first game. Our three year old Powder (see the picture on the left and you’ll see why she gets that nickname) kicked off the triple header. Watching a bunch of 3 yr. olds attempt to play soccer is very cute and funny.

I immediately tried to get Mrs. Mookie to gamble with me as I set the O/U on how many kids would cry at 6. She wasn’t interested and after seeing the dam break on 4 kids before the game started I realized I had a bad line. Powder did a good job of chasing after the ball but wasn’t real interested in actually kicking the thing. She had a blast and has already found a couple of friends on her team. Cute stuff.

Last fall my I coached my son’s team and by the luck of the draw we had some good players. We went undefeated and Homie took great pride in being a part of that team. This spring he wasn’t as lucky, his team is well…pretty bad. Homie played every position except for goalie which is what he played all of last fall. He was aggressive though and even sideswiped a kid drawing a foul. After the game he made me chuckle when he recounted the slide tackle…”I can’t believe I didn’t get a red card”.

The last game of the day for us featured our 7 yr. old…Lainey. She got in there mixing it up and even scored a goal. Of course up to that point I had watched every second of every game but missed her goal. I was off looking for Homie and when I turned back around I saw her coach and teammates congratulating her. Doh!

It was a long day at the fields but was great being able to spend time with the family. The only slip up was forgetting the sunscreen. Luckily none of the kids were sunburned, but I look part lobster now.

Later that night we had my family over for Mrs. Mookie’s birthday party. We strayed from our healthy eating and had pizza, beer, cake and ice cream. After watching George Lopez’s comedy special on HBO OnDemand (which is pretty funny), everyone headed home and we crashed around midnight.

Yesterday was Mrs. Mookie’s birthday…she turned 34 24 and as a present, I took all 5 kiddos to the mall giving her a few hours to herself. Five kids alone at the mall sounds terrifying but it wasn’t bad at all. They all behaved well and we had a great time shopping for mom’s birthday presents.

We hit one of my favorite spots in the mall first…the Food Court. I don’t really care much for the food choices there, but I LOVE to people watch. Now I’m no fashion expert like Carmen, but c’mon people look in the mirror one time before leaving your house.

* To the guy sporting a fanny pack…DON’T. The fanny pack has got to be one of the worst inventions ever. I have to agree with Phil Laak…it’s like wearing a Bluetooth ear piece to a nightclub. I’m hoping Change100 has a special fashion segment on the fanny pack at this year’s WSOP. I wonder what the O/U is on how many people wear one there.

* To the guy standing in line at Subway…1983 called and wants that Member’s Only jacket back. If you were 85 you’d get a pass but you weren’t much older than me. If your gonna rock the Member’s Only you might as well peg roll your jeans and put on a pair of Kaepa’s to complete the hat trick.

* To the 40+ yr. old lady shopping with her teenage daughter…You’re not 16 anymore…don’t wear your daughter’s jeans and skimpy shirt. You look like a mushroom with your love handles hanging over your 3-sizes too small jeans.

* And finally to the parents of those two poor boys…don’t ever let your kids leave the house like that again. It borders on child abuse letting your 9 and 10 year old boys step out of the house wearing matching flannel pajama bottoms with train prints. The mismatch shirts were bad too, but the pajama pants tucked into white cowboy boots with pink designs clearly crossed the line.

After the mall trip we made it home in one piece and presented mom with presents…which she loved. Last night I took her out for a birthday dinner with friends and when my head finally hit the pillow at 11:30pm…I crashed hard.

Ah, memories of the kids playing soccer. Now my daughter doesn’t play and my son is into basketball and football. It sure is funny to watch when they were little. I remember the first time they played and didn’t keep score. Well, my son sure did keep score. I do remember the Phil L. comments about fanny packs on HSP. Thank you YouTube. Thanks again.

  2. Yea, I think it’s pointless for them not to keep score. The kids know who is winning and I think it’s good for them to go through the highs and lows of winning and losing.

    See you on Wednesday.
