Goals Review – January
January has come and past so it’s time to take a look at how I’m doing with my goals for 2007. To review, here is what I put down as my goals for the year and how I did this past month:
Poker
- Play less and focus. This month I didn’t play as much as I have over the course of last year. Starting in December I reduced the amount of time I spent online and that carried over to January. I played horribly this whole month though. I focused well while playing cash games, but tournaments were a completely different story. Here is what I played this month:
- (7) 9 person SNGs (1 ITM – 1st place)
- (1) 6 person SNG (0 ITM)
- (2) 18 person token SNGs (0 ITM)
- (1) 180 person SNG (1 ITM – 3rd place)
- (5) Mookie tournaments (0 ITM)
- (5) 2nd Chance Mookie tournaments (0 ITM)
- (1) MTT (0 ITM)
- (3) Home tournaments (0 ITM)
- About 225 hands at low limit cash games (2hrs. 45min.)
- Win The Mookie. It’s hard to even comment on this without laughing. Let’s see…my finishes for the month in The Mookie were 26th, 45th, 44th, 21st and 36th. Yikes.
- Be profitable. January was my first losing month in quite some time. Luckily I play so low the figures are tiny. I lost $155.22 playing tournaments both live and online while winning $50.70 playing cash games. Cash is king as they say. Net result…-$104.52. (Thank goodness for rakeback and ad revenue)
- Build a roll. I still haven’t fully funded my online bankroll and with all the latest happenings with Neteller, etc. I’m not sure if and when that will happen.
- Take a shot. I played two token tournaments to try and qualify for the Big Game and played so poorly in those I gave up for the month. Since I haven’t deposited any money this year (and obviously didn’t win any) I wasn’t able to jump up to any bigger cash games.
- Attend a blogger event. I’m still hoping to make the summer Vegas event and now that we’re talking about having the Weekend at Mookie’s I may be able to meet some more bloggers sooner.
Personal
- Spend more quality time with my family. I am quickly settling into a routine of coming home, leaving my laptop in the bag and hanging out with my family. We recently joined YMCA so we will be spending a lot of time together at each of the kiddos sports programs.
- Read. I’m a little behind schedule since I haven’t finished reading one book yet. I’m more than halfway through Fast Food Nation though.
- Get fit. This is a goal I knocked out of the park for the month. I joined the gym around the corner from our house and have been going 3 times a week, (2 days at 6:00AM). I’ve completely changed up the food I eat steering clear of fatty fried crap. I pushed the beer aside and have been drinking gallons of water along with 2 protein shakes each day.
So there you have it…Poker sucked but my personal life is getting much better and that of course is the most important thing.

Funny, I just joined Anytime Fitness 3 weeks ago. I’ve been going about 4 times a week over my lunch hour. It’s quite the energy boost.
MMMMMMMMMMMMM…fatty fried crap. This is still a weakness of mine. I can kill at a Popeye’s or Krispy Kreme.
So far so good…I haven’t fallen onto the Krispy Kreme wagon yet.
Fucker, you better get your ass to Vegas in the Summer! Or Else!
Gonna do my best to get there.
[...] Play less and focus. I played about as many tournaments and cash games as I did last month keeping to my plan of playing less, especially online. February was a much better month compared to January. Not only were the results better, but my play improved and with more confidence. Here is what I played this month: [...]
