Gettin’ Old
It’s only March and I’m ready to start using some vacation time. This weekend kicked my ass and I don’t even have any cool excuses like partying with showgirls and hot Jersey broads. Instead my weekend was filled with poker, golf, shopping and dinner. Not as exciting as the #1 rockstar blogger’s weekend, but fun nonetheless.
As mentioned in my no where near as good as Pauly’s home tourney report, I narrowly missed out on going back to back Friday night at the Big O. It was a late night and my head didn’t hit the pillow until 2AM…which in suburban dad life is like rolling in around 7AM for a single party guy or #1 rockstar blogger.
Earlier last week my dad invited me to play golf on Saturday at the site of the upcoming Weekend at Mookie’s 1st Annual Golf Tournament. The weather all week had been beautiful with temps reaching the 80′s on most days.
I rolled out of bed Saturday morning and made it to the golf course early enough to practice a few puts before our tee time. There was a group of 7 or 8 old guys…even older than me…with wads of cash in hand gambling on their putting. Nothing is funnier than listening to grumpy old men argue over how many putts they took.
It was much cooler with temps in the high 40′s and the wind gusts were 10-20 mph. See I have to preface my golf score with all the reasons why I didn’t shoot an 85. Since we were only a two-some we were paired up with two others guys…a couple of good ol’ boys. Tatum and Monty. As country as can be…one was decked out in Wrangler jeans, your typical redneck belt that may or may not have had “Monty” embossed on the back and a Garth Brooks style shirt. The only thing he was missing were some boots.
The other guy looked like he was ready for the PGA Tour…Taylor Made hat, shirt and golf pants to go along with his Taylor Made golf set and Tour bag. Unfortunately his game wasn’t quite ready for the tour…after putting his first tee shot 200 yards into the trees to the left, he took the first of what would end up being at least 30 mulligans of the day. These two were nice enough guys but slowed our round down by taking multiple mulligans (or what they called “provisional” shots) each hole if there first tee shot didn’t find the fairway. These shots were never counted of course and they routinely made pars over the course of the day.
I on the other hand drove the ball well but couldn’t putt to save my life. I’ve never 3 and 4-putted so much in my life. On one hole I had about a 25 foot putt for birdie and ended up taking a double bogey. Yikes. Even though my round stunk I enjoyed the time with my dad. It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to make time to play a round with him.
We had dinner Saturday night with friends at PF Changs. I love me some Changs Spicy Chicken and Mongolian Beef. Good stuff.
After the long Saturday I thought I would be able to spend my Sunday relaxing on the couch while I took in some sports and poker on TV. Wrong. Instead I spent the entire day with Mrs. Mookie and kiddos shopping for a myriad of things. We bought more stuff for the yard which means more work in the coming weeks to prepare for the WAM. Inspired by RoccoBoxer’s new poker room, I’m going to paint the Big O poker room. We bought 6 different colors to test on the room and still haven’t come up with a final choice. Needless to say I won’t be bored over the next month and a half.
Monday morning was brutal…I stumbled out of bed around 5:45AM and was a zombie at the gym. All day yesterday I moaned and groaned about how tired and sore I was. It’s tough aging…and whenever I complain to Mrs. Mookie she tells me she soaks hers in the bathtub whenever it hurts. Geez, no love for geriatric-Mook.

The Mookie tournaments for this week have been posted on Full Tilt and it looks like our defending champ, BSN won’t be able to join us this week due to computer problems. His choice for the 2nd Chance tournament is 7-Stud High. Since I’m getting old this game may be right up my alley.
Unless there are any other gluttons for punishment, I’ll be live blogging the main tourney. Come join us, it’s always fun even when that donk calls your all in with AJ, KQ or 72.
If you’re like me and trying to snag your first blogger and/or Mookie title, now’s the time to play. With Lost running at the same time along with the WSOP satellites, etc. the field has been smaller over the last few weeks improving your odds on winning.
I’ll see everyone tomorrow night on Full Tilt.

playing from the tips? hehe
More like the reds…at least that’s where I shoulda been playing.
Just don’t ask Dugglebogey for some putting tips… I would give you some pointers, but it’s a little tough over the net. Think Metronome. tick…. tock. tick…. tock.
Thanks Schaubs…you need to make it to the Weekend at Mookie’s. I need some putting lessons.
