Big O Recap: Battle of the Scotts
On Friday night the Big O hosted the Season 4 Kickoff tournament. 16 players showed up for the rebuy event including some new faces like Ben, ScottMc and April. The action was relatively calm as no rebuy records were broken…there were only 4 rebuys. Nearly everyone took advantage of the add-on which helped boost the prize pool a bit.
Ben was the first casualty of the night when his two pair were run down by a river flush from TOC II Champ, Henry. Dave O. would fall in 15th place a few minutes later.
Play would continue on for another hour before a player would hit the rail. Carol was on a very shortstack and pushed in with Ax and was beaten by Toby with AK (I think). Justin T was knocked out in 13th place and then Michael was out at the hands of Clara after running his AK into Justin J’s J8 earlier.
David pushed in on an OESD against Toby’s two pair but found no love on the river and was the 11th place finisher. This left 10 players and the final table was set.
Here were the final tablers and their chipcounts:
- Greg – 66,300
- ScottMc – 61,900
- Toby – 60,100
- Scott – 51,600
- Henry – 30,000
- Clara – 26,900
- Jim – 25,800
- April – 25,500
- Justin J – 20,500
- Armando – 15,600
Riding a very short stack with blinds at 1500/3000 (400 ante), it didn’t take long for me to find any resemblance of a hand and push my scraps in. QJo was good enough and my chips were pushed into the middle only to run into Jim’s AA and end my night in 10th place.
This marks back to back tournaments that Jim has had the pleasure of knocking me out. Since I’m such a nice guy and never hold a grudge I’ll once again promote Jim’s latest clothing line…J Cakes. Given Scott’s recent tournament success, Jim has decided to make him the newest face of J Cakes. Here’s a photo of Jim and Scott hugging it out…
A few minutes later a shortstacked Justin J was all in and then all out in 9th place. Awhile later there was a big 3-way hand that saw Clara (Mrs. Mookie) push all in preflop followed by Henry who did the same. Greg had both players covered and decided to call and since Clara had the shortest stack of the 3, there was a side pot. Clara had TT, Henry 77 and Greg AK. The pair of tens held up and Clara took the main pot, Henry the side pot and Greg was left with crumbs.
It wasn’t too much longer after this that Greg finished in 8th place compliments of April who kept rolling by knocking out Jim in 7th. Nearing the money Henry had commented earlier that he wouldn’t be the bubble boy. In a battle of the blinds he tried to make a move and pushed all in from the SB with Q3o. Toby quickly called in the BB with AA and ended Henry’s evening in 6th place.
With blinds at 4000/8000 (1000 ante) and everyone sporting somewhat similar chipstacks, the final 5 decided to save a little cash for the 5th place finisher putting Henry on the bubble. Toby was the bigger stack for awhile but kept finding himself looking down the barrel of April’s all-in move and folding. Finally he decided to look her up with AJ while she had TT. The tens held up and he took a big hit to his chipstack. A few hands later he went out in 5th against Scott.
In a battle of bloggers, April and ScottMc got all in preflop with April sporting AA and ScottMc AQ (I think)…total domination. That is until ScottMc rivered a straight to crack the big pair leaving April on life support. The very next hand Clara had AQ and was all in against April with The Mook…T8. An eight on the flop gave April hopes of a double up, but the river would be brutal again to her when a Queen fell ending her night in 4th place.
The blinds kept moving up and Clara made a move with K3o but was called down by Scott with AT and finished in 3rd place leaving the heads up battle to the two Scotts.
They both wore longhorn orange, black Full Tilt hats, facial hair, glasses and had a certain donkey swagger. The only differentiator was the watch ScottMc was wearing and so he was dubbed “Scott with a watch”. Since both players had similar chipstacks, they decided to chop up the money leaving $20 to play for along with the points and title rights.
Heads up play didn’t last too long as Scott was able to double through ScottMc and the final hand saw them racing. Scott had 99 while ScottMc held AJ (I think)…the nines held up and Scott was the first winner of Season 4 at the Big O. Congrats !
