Big O Poker Report
So after the golf tournament and BBQ, we started up the Big O rebuy tournament. Sixteen tired, sunburned, half-drunk players started the tourney.
I started at the table with Justin, Mrs. Mookie, Windie, Lee Anne, Joel, Skip, and Carol. The other table consisted of Jim, Toby, Pants, Rico, Bubba, Stacey, Henry and Godfrey. This “report” won’t be as comprehensive as usual since by tourney time I had already consumed a lot of beer.
As always with our rebuy tourneys, the action was fast and furious. There were a number of rebuys and addons. The other table had the majority of the rebuys however so there way more chips in play there. Also, once the rebuy period ended, the first four players eliminated came from that table – Godfrey, Henry, Bubba and Rico. One of the first players moved from our table to balance the tables was Joel, who at the time was our table chipleader. So our table had crumbs compared to the other.
I couldn’t get anything going and hovered around average until a round or two after the break. I then lost a couple of medium size pots – one to Mrs. Mookie when she had AK and I had AQ. Justin was the next to go out, followed by Pants. This put us at the final table with these chipcounts:
- Joel – 141,000
- Toby – 106,000
- Skip – 68,500
- Jim – 51,500
- Stacey – 41,500
- Mrs. Mookie – 38,000
- Carol – 31,500
- Lee Anne – 31,500
- Windie – 15,000
- Me – 12,000
We started the final table with a few seconds left with the blinds at 1k/2k. I needed to make a move…quick. I had a shot to double up and kinda get back in the game, but I couldn’t run my AK past Joel’s AJ and I was out in 10th place. This was Joel’s first tourney at the Big O for the year as he has been off in military training. Here he is in full uniform:

Skip would be the next to leave in 9th place, followed by Carol and Lee Anne. As I said before, I didn’t pay too much attention to the action after I was knocked out as there was more Dos XX to drink. Windie finished 6th after making a great run from just 1,500 chips earlier in the tournament.
Joel was hitting every flop it seemed and continued to chip up. They were down to 5 players, and it was bubble time. Joel and Jim got all in preflop (I think) with Jim having AK and Joel KJ. Joel continued to hit and ended up with a straight and Jim was bubble boy for the night.
Mrs. Mookie once again made it deep and finished in the money and in 4th place. Toby would exit in 3rd and Joel and Stacey went heads up. Joel had her outchipped almost 10-1 and the match ended quickly. Congrats to Joel for his first win of the season and to Stacey for her first in the money finish.
