2008 Goal FAIL
I’ve put this post off long enough I guess. It’s time to take a look at my goals for 2008 and see how turrible I did.
POKER
Be profitable. CHECK – Even though I reduced the amount of online play for the 2nd half of the year, I still managed to finish the year with a larger profit than ’07.
Win The Mookie. FAIL - Arggh! 9 final tables including two 2nd place finishes but NO wins. Embarrassing and unacceptable. Even a prop bet with Hoyazo couldn’t motivate me to break through for that first win.
Build a roll. FAIL - I had my online roll up to its highest point ever but when my Vegas trip came around in June I pulled most of it out. Vegas was a success but I never redeposited the money I took out. A couple more withdrawals during the second half of the year and I’m left with just a few hundred.
Move up. FAIL – This goal fell by the wayside during the 2nd half of the year. Since then the majority of my online play has been at The Mookie. Work, family and other things have taken the place and hours of online poker.
Attend a blogger event. FAIL - So close. I was set to make an appearance in June but sick kiddos postponed my trip. Work obligations kept me from showing up at the December gathering. It looks this goal along with winning The Mookie will be the hardest to complete in the future.
PERSONAL
Get fit/active. FAIL – I think I was able to string together a couple months of eating decent and gym trips. Unfortunately after that the gym card gathered dust and my Wall of Beer was born. I was only able to play 3 rounds of golf instead of the 12 that I had hoped for.
Read. CHECK – Finally something I actually achieved. Since I spent less time playing online poker, I had more time to read.
Evaluate my career. FAIL – This is another goal that should have been changed midyear to “Preserve my career”. Our company was sold to a huge international company based in Paris and shortly after the sale I was told my days were numbered. This coupled with the failing economy made me have a renewed appreciation for the job I had. Fortunately it looks like my time here will be extended throughout 2009. We’ll see.
Start working/growing ideas. FAIL – Laziness prevailed and I came nowhere close to accomplishing this goal.
Two out of nine isn’t bad right? Well I guess there’s always this year to do better. I’ll be back later this week with my goals for 2009.

Two out of nine is above average I’m thinking.
Well done. Continued success next year.
2 of 9 — FAIL! LOOOSER!
Ha, thanks Don.
For my 2009 goals, maybe I’ll just aim low and strive to be break-even like Waffles.
Clearly you need to have fewer and more attainable goals
